Jebediah Foundation New Music Commissions (JFNMC)

Jebediah Foundation New Music Commissions (JFNMC) supported the composition and public performance of new concert music.

Through its funding, JFMNC seeked to enable composers fully to engage their imagination in creating works of artistic vision and ambition which might otherwise not be possible, having potential to significantly advance the careers and artistic visions of the participants – primarily the composer, but also those who perform the work, and audiences who experience the work as listeners.

JFNMC hopes this funding will provide composers an opportunity to explore and evolve in a direction that other commission funding might not afford, perceiving it as an affirmation of their potential.

Proposals should grow out of the composerʼs thoughtful reflection about how best to utilize this opportunity and by whom it will be initially performed. Gestation time before writing is essential, which is recognized in the three year time frame for completion of the composition and delivery of score and parts to the performers.

Without constraint on a composerʼs execution of this commission, composers are requested to keep live within themselves awareness of the human condition in which mankind exists.

Compositions will normally exceed 15 minutes. Scorings for under 30 instruments are preferred but not mandatory. Works for full orchestra are not viewed as of greater significance than more limited scorings.
